Member Briefing: GAO's Annual DHS Assessment

Member Briefing: GAO's Annual DHS Assessment
Tuesday, April 1, 2025 (2:30 PM - 5:00 PM) (EDT)
Description
Join us for a member briefing on the Government Accountability Office (GAO) report assessing the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) major acquisition programs. This 10th annual assessment evaluates DHS’s $41 billion investment in programs that advance maritime safety, border security, and other critical missions.
The GAO report examines 24 major DHS acquisition programs across CBP, Coast Guard, FEMA, TSA, and other components.
Key Findings from the GAO Report:
1. Most programs are meeting current goals—but only after revising baselines to address cost growth and delays.
2. DHS lacks consistent transparency in revising acquisition baselines and could improve guidance.
3. High-priority programs, such as the Coast Guard’s Offshore Patrol Cutters and Polar Security Cutters, face ongoing cost and schedule risks.
4. Addressing GAO’s open recommendations, including high-priority items, could further strengthen acquisition management.
Join us for a discussion on GAO’s findings and what they mean for DHS’s acquisition oversight.
